Berjaya China Motors (BCM) has introduced the facelifted Kaicene (Changan) Era Star II Pick-up and Panel van. The Era Star II which was introduced in April 2016, is now upgraded and equipped with Electric Power Steering (EPS) with full white bumper, same with the body colour and white door handle.
Kaicene (Changan) Era Star II Panel/Semi-Panel Van and the Pick-up comes in a Single cab or Double cab with a total of six variants – Wooden body, Steel body, Box, Luton, Pasar Malam van and Mobile Cafe.
The Panel vans, both measured at 3,980 mm long, 1,620 mm wide and 1,890 mm high. The Panel Van has a cargo space of 2,010 mm in length and 1,370 mm in height and with two-seater. The Semi-Panel Van comes with 5-seater, while the cargo space with a 1,110 mm long and 1,250 mm in width. Both have a wheelbase of 2,560 mm, while the panel van weighs 1,100 kg and the Semi-Panel model at 1,115 kg (kerb weight).
The Kaicene Era Star II single cab Pick-up, with a measurement of 4,560 mm long, while the double cab is at 4,660 mm. Width, height and wheelbase are the same at 1,620 mm, 1,890 mm and 2,900 mm respectively. The single cab’s deck length and width measures 2,750 mm and 1,520 mm, respectively, while the double cab’s deck comes in shorter at 2,060 mm in length.
The single cab variant weighs a total of 1,070 kg and the double cab at 1,160 kg (kerb weight). The former has a payload capacity of 950 kg and 650 kg for the latter. Both the Van and Pick-up models have a Macpherson independent front suspension and a leaf spring dependent rear suspension. Both also utilise front disc brake and a rear drum brake (with vacuum booster).
Both the Era Star II van and Pick-up vehicles are powered by a Euro 4-compliant 1.2 litre four-cylinder MPI petrol DOHC engine with a power output of 96 hp @ 6,000rpm and a torque of 120 Nm@ 4,800rpm, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Both have a fuel tank capacity of 40 litres, while claimed fuel consumption is rated at 6.5L/100 km.
Standard items that can be found on the Era Star II vans include a silver front grille, front fog lights, body-coloured side mirrors, high-mounted brake light and rear combination lights. Inside, it gets power front windows, air-conditioning, two speakers, a radio system with AUX port, reading lights (front), an electronic instrument cluster.
